Shawl, knit from center and out

Keywords: shawl,

To get a pretty start on a shawl worked from the center and out, we many times use a technique shown in the video as for design 142-29. The pattern will say something like to work 6 rows over 3 sts and at the end of 6th row do not turn piece but rotate 90 degrees clockwise, pick up 3 sts along the edge (i.e. 1 st in every ridge (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st)), rotate piece again, 90 degrees clockwise and pick up 3 sts along cast on edge (i.e. 1 st in every st) = 9 sts on needle.
