Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows on larger needles in pattern = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"].
Pattern: See chart. (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette stitch.

Buttons: If you wish to have buttons instead of a zipper, knit a buttonband instead of zipper plackets as follows: Pick up approx. 105-110 sts along the left front on smaller needles with black and knit 2 rows garter st, then knit seed stitch for 2.5 cm [1"], bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm [3/8"] make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row).
Body: Cast on 227 (243) sts on smaller circular needles with black and knit 4 rows garter st. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1 once, keeping 1 edge st at each side (center front) in garter st throughout (not knit in pattern). After Pattern 1, repeat Pattern 2 to finished dimensions. When the work measures 30 (29) cm [11.75" (11-3/8")], knit the next row as follows: 55 (59) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 109 (117) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 55 (59) sts for the front. Knit the rest of each part separately.
Front: = 55 (59) sts. Bind off for armholes every other row: 3 sts 0 (1) time, 2 sts 1 (1) time, 1 st 2 (3) times = 51 (51) sts. When the work measures 50 cm [19.75"], bind off for the neck every other row: 11 (12) sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 times. Bind off when the work measures 57 cm [22.5"].
Back: = 109 (117) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 101 (101) sts. When the work measures 55 cm [21-5/8"], bind off the center 34 (36) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 57 cm [22.5"].
Sleeves: Cast on 52 (54) sts on smaller double pointed needles with black; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 4 rows garter st. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 3 once, Pattern 4 once, then repeat Pattern 2 to finished dimensions. At the same time, when the work measures 5 cm [2"], inc 1 st each side of marker 28 (29) times every 3rd row = 108 (112) sts. When the work measures 44 (43) cm [17.25" (16-7/8")], bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Then bind off for sleeve caps each side every other row: 5 (4) sts 7 (9) times, bind off. The work measures approx. 50 (51) cm [19.75" (20")].
Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 105-110 sts along the left front on smaller needles with black and knit 4 rows garter st, bind off. Pick up sts again from the wrong side and knit 2 rows stockinette stitch, bind off. Repeat along the right front. Now two zipper plackets have been created into which the fabric on the zipper is inserted. Pick up approx. 110 sts around the neck on smaller needles with black. Change to natural and knit 2 rows garter st. Change back to black and knit 4 rows garter st, bind off.
Crochet border: Crochet with double strands of black from the right side as follows: 1 row of approx. 145 (153) single crochet (sc) around the lower edge of the body. Then work a row of sc in the opposite direction without turning the work (reverse crochet). Work 1 sc into each sc from the previous row. Repeat both rows around the sleeves with approx. 33-35 sc and around the neck with approx. 73-78 sc. Sew on the sleeves and sew in the zipper.
