NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inch - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here.
Gauge: 23 sts x 30 rows on larger needle in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm (4» x 4»)

Pattern: See chart (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side.

Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows.
Garter st, when knitting in the round: *Rnd 1, knit. Rnd 2, purl.* Repeat from * - *.

Cast on 273 (281-289) sts (including 2 sts at each edge knit in garter st throughout) on larger needles and knit 2 rows garter st. Change to stockinette st and establish pattern as follows: 2 edge sts in garter st, 20 sts in Pattern 1, 28 sts in Pattern 2, 20 sts in Pattern 1, 1 st in stockinette st, 132 (140-148) sts in Pattern 3, 20 sts in Pattern 1, 28 sts in Pattern 2, 20 sts in Pattern 1, 2 edge sts.
Work in pattern until the piece measures 30 (31-31) cm (11.75» (12.25», 12.25»)). Keeping in pattern, work the next row as follows: 75 (77-79) sts for the front, bind off 6 sts for armhole, 111 (115-119) sts for the back, bind off 6 sts for armhole, 75 (77-79) sts for the front.
Knit the rest of each part separately.

Front: = 75 (77-79) sts. Bind off at armhole edge every other row: 2 sts 2 (2-2) times, dec 1 st 2 (3-4) times = 69 (70-71) sts. When the work measures 47 (48-49) cm (18.5» (18-7/8», 19.25»)), bind off at neck edge every other row 9 (10-10) sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3 times, dec 1 st 4 times = 47 (47-48) sts remain on the shoulder.
When the work measures 54.5 (55.5-56.5) cm (21.5» (21-7/8», 22.25»), knit one row of stockinette st, decreasing 14 sts evenly distributed on the row = 33 (33-34) sts on the shoulder.
Bind off when the work measures 55 (56-57) cm (21-5/8» (22», 22.5»)).

Back: 111 (115-119) sts. Shape armholes as on the front = 99 (101-103) sts.
When the work measures 53 (54-55) cm (20-7/8» (21.25», 21-5/8»)) bind off the center 29 (31-31) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row = 33 (33-34) sts on the shoulder.
Bind off all sts when the work measures 55 (56-57) cm (21-5/8» (22», 22.5»)).

Sleeves: Cast on 50 (50-54) sts on larger double pointed needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 4 rows garter st. Change to Pattern 3 for remainder of sleeve.
When the work measures 5 cm (2»), inc 1 st each side of marker 33 (33-33) times, alternately every 3rd and 4th rows = 116 (116-120) sts (knit the increased sts into the pattern).
When the work measures 48 (47.5-48) cm (18-7/8» (18.75», 18-7/8»)) bind off 3 sts each side of marker and knit the rest of the sleeve back and forth on the needle.
Bind off at each side every other row 4 (4-3) sts 8 (9-10) times, bind off all sts.
The work measures 54 (54-55) cm (21.25» (21.25», 21-5/8»)).

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams.
Pick up 120-130 sts on smaller needle around the neck and knit 4 rows garter st.

Front band: Crochet along the left front as follows: 2 rows of 94 sc. Repeat along the right front but after the 1st row (which should be started at the bottom
edge) make 8 buttonholes on the 2nd row as follows: 2 sc, *ch 2, skip over 2 sc on the row beneath (1 buttonhole), 9 sc*. Repeat * - *.
Sew on sleeves and buttons.
