JACKET
Worked back and forth on circular needle from mid front.
Cast on 131-139-147-155-171-187 sts (includes 4 front band sts towards mid front each side) on circular needle size 8 mm [US 11] with Eskimo. Work 8 rows garter st – see above (1st row = RS). Insert a Marking Thread (MT) 35-37-39-41-45-49 sts in from each side (to mark the sides, back piece = 61-65-69-73-81-89 sts). Continue as follows: 4 front band sts in garter st, M.1A on the next 120-128-136-144-160-176 sts (= 15-16-17-18-20-22 repeats across row), M.1B (= 3 sts) and 4 front band sts in garter st. Remember the knitting gauge! When piece measures 6 cm [2 3/8’’] dec 1 st on both sides of each MT – see Decreasing tip – on every 3.5-3.5-3.5-4-4-4 cm [1¼”-1¼”-1¼”-1½”-1½”-1½”] a total of 8 times = 99-107-115-123-139-155 sts. Continue until piece measures 32-33-34-35-36-37 cm [12½’’-13½’’-13 3/8’’-13¾’’-14¼’’-14½’’]. Remember buttonholes on right front piece! – see above. Now K 1 row from RS, at the same time adjust no of sts to 96-104-114-124-138-152 sts (do not dec on front band sts). K 4 rows, at the same time on the last row bind off 6 sts each side for armhole (i.e. 3 sts on each side of each MT) = 84-92-102-112-126-140 sts. Put piece aside.

Continue in Garter st pattern – see above – (front bands worked in garter st as before). At the same time when piece measures approx 2 cm [3/4’’] from MT dec 30-30-26-29-32-29 sts evenly (adjust so the dec are made on row K from RS) on every 5-5-4-4.5-4.5-4 cm [2”-2”-1½”-1¾”-1¾”-1½”] a total of 4-4-5-5-5-6 times = 50-58-60-62-64-74 sts.
