PATTERN: See diagram M.1 and M.2. The diagrams show the pattern from the RS.

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle):
K all rows.

INCREASING TIP: Make all inc from the RS. Inc 4 sts on every other row (= the RS) throughout. Inc 1 st at beg of row as follows: work 4 garter sts, 1 double YO. On return row K all sts (K the first YO and slip the other off needle – to make hole larger).
Inc 2 sts mid row as follows - beg 1 st before marker: K1, 1 double YO, marker, 33 garter sts, marker, 1 double YO, K1. On return row K all sts (K the first YO and slip the other off needle).
Inc 1 st at the end of row as follows – beg 4 sts before the end of row: 1 double YO, 4 garter sts. On return row K all sts (K the first YO and slip the other off needle).
Work inc sts in garter st.

EXTRA ROWS: Work row to marker, work the 33 sts in the middle section, turn piece and work return row on the 33 sts, turn piece and work all sts on row.

MEASUREMENT TIP: Because of the weight of the yarn all measurements should be made while the piece is hanging.

SHAWL:
Worked back and forth on circular needle in order to fit in all sts, from mid back and downwards. NOTE! Make sure to start a new ball of yarn at the side and not mid piece. Cast on 43 sts on needle size 4.5 mm with 1 thread of each quality. Work 5 rows garter st. Insert 2 markers in piece, 5 sts in from each side = 33 sts between markers (middle section). Now inc on every other row (= the RS) at both sides and on each side of the middle section until finished measurements – SEE INCREASING TIP! Continue in garter st until there are 367 sts on row – piece now measures approx 46 cm when placed flat. Work next row as follows: K4, * K2 tog, 1 double YO *, repeat from *-*, until 4 sts remain, K4. K all sts on return row with K1 in each YO. Work 6 rows garter st on all sts, AT THE SAME TIME on row 1 and 3 (= rows from the RS) work 2 extra rows on the 33 sts in the middle section – see above. There are now 383 sts on row. Work next row as follows: 4 garter sts, * M.1 (= 11 sts), M.2 (= 29 sts) *, repeat from *-* 4 times on the next 160 sts, M.1, K2, M.2, K2, * M.1 (= 11 sts), M.2 (= 29 sts) *, repeat from *-* 4 times on the next 160 sts, M.1, and 4 garter sts. Work 8 rows garter st on all sts, AT THE SAME TIME on row 3 and 5 (= rows from the RS) work 2 extra rows on the 33 sts in the middle section. Work next row as follows: K4, * K2 tog, 1 double YO *, repeat from *-*, until 4 sts remain, K4. K all sts on return row with K1 in each YO. Continue in garter st on all sts until piece measures approx 85 cm mid back – SEE MEASUREMENT TIP. Cast off loosely.
